As I look at myself I must say that your comments are overwhelming and wonderful. We have had some good memories together, which I hope will blot out the not-so-good ones. I have always been very proud of each of you, though there were times I wondered why when I watched some behaviors.
I remember asking my Dad for some advice when I married, but all he said is, "Do better than I did." If any of you had ever asked I hope that is what I would have said, and I hope you will still strive to do that. I have always honestly felt that your mother and I have often tried to do the right things. And yes, there is a difference between doing the right thing and doing a thing right. HOpefully you will all do better than I at both. Looking back at our lives together, and now watching how you live, I have few regrets. One of these regrets is not teaching stronger goal orientation, another is not teaching better prayer habits, and another is not having father interviews with the boys the way I did with you girls.
All is not lost, however, as you can "do better than I did". I pray you will each strive to do so.
Love from a grateful dad.
